MEET ALAN
From Sand to Silver is led by jeweler Alan Mitchell. After years of designing, making, and selling jewelry, Alan created the studio to share the jewelry-making process with visitors to Jacó.
Every workshop is personally guided in a relaxed, welcoming environment. Participants work with real jewelry tools, traditional techniques, and genuine .925 sterling silver to create something they can wear and remember.
FROM SAND TO SILVER
The name reflects both our home on Costa Rica’s Pacific coast and the transformation at the heart of jewelry making. Simple materials are shaped, forged, finished, and polished into something personal and lasting.
The sand-cast shell pendant workshop brings that connection to life by using a natural shell and traditional sand-casting techniques to create a one-of-a-kind piece of sterling silver jewelry.

- Approximately three hours of personal instruction
- Professional jewelry tools and traditional techniques
- Up to 10 grams of .925 sterling silver
- Small groups and personal guidance
- One project selected for the entire group
- A completed piece of sterling silver jewelry to take home
